Last weekend (23rd and 24th May 2009) I was at the Southside Festival in Glasgow's Queens Park. Organised by the local community, it's a celebration of the cultural diversity and community spirit found in the Southside. A plethora of music, dance, arts and crafts were on diplsay with stacks of activity to take part in for young and old alike. It was fun.

I guess it's a reflection of the success of the West End Festival that the Southside Festival has sprung up. And indeed, the West End Festival has grown rapidly over the last 14years! This year, it spans Friday 12th June through to Sunday 28th June, with Sunday 14th highlighted as 'Festival Sunday' when tens of thousands are expected to descend on the carnival of events centred around Byres Road.

More than 200 events are crammed into two weeks with plenty for families and friends to indulge in - from comedy to theatre, walks and trails to live music and fairs.

You might also be interested in the Glasgow University Science Festival with activities organised for all ages at Glasgow University running from 2nd May to 18th June, 2009. Science Sunday on June 14th has lots of free hands on activities for families, live science shows and the chance to meet scientists from CERN between 10am and 4pm at the Hunterian Museum.
